Nate Lessler

Based in Seattle, Nate Lessler is a filmmaker and editor focused on documentary. His work is shaped by a strong sense of place and atmosphere, an interest in how history lingers in the present, and a belief that stories gain depth through lived relationship to the people and landscapes they concern.

He edited the feature documentary Ultimate Citizens, which screened at more than 50 film festivals and won over 25 awards. He previously served as Lead Editor at an Emmy Award-winning creative agency and has also worked independently as a writer, videographer, editor, and producer for nonprofits, cultural organizations, and commercial clients.

His feature directorial debut, The Seattle Earthquake Project, draws on more than three years of archival and scientific research, as well as his own lifelong relationship to the region, to explore seismic risk, anxiety, and how people live with the possibility of disaster.
